A. Lukashenko visited the BelNPP
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited the Ostrovets district of the Grodno region on a working trip. The head of state was informed about the completion of construction and acceptance of the nuclear power plant into operation and was presented with a symbolic passport of the facility. During the visit, they discussed the integration of the BelNPP into the country’s economy and the prospects for cooperation with the Rosatom State Corporation. The project has become the most high-tech and large-scale in the history of Belarusian-Russian relations. About 40 Belarusian and Russian organizations took part in the construction of the nuclear power plant. At the peak of the station’s construction, more than 9 thousand construction workers were involved at the site. The unit is currently operating at rated power. Since its inclusion in the unified energy system, 2.1 billion kWh of electricity has been generated. With the commissioning of the second power unit, the BelNPP will annually generate about 18 billion kWh and provide more than 40% of the country’s domestic electricity needs.
