Unique folk rite "Pulling koliada on the oak tree" completes Christmas holidays

The village of Noviny in the Berezinski district hosted the traditional rite of "Pulling koliada on the oak tree". This tradition has been followed by the local people for centuries. The rite has its roots in paganism. Its main purpose is to attract good luck, a good harvest and family prosperity in the coming year. The event ends with traditional dances, songs and games. The ritual is a non-material historical and cultural value of Belarus and is included into the State List of Historical and Cultural Values.
