Secrets of wicker weaving
09.08.2021
The large family of Sergei and Marina Belenki from the Stolbtsovski district are known for weaving wicker baskets, breadbaskets, vases and bags. The skill, along with secrets, was inherited from their great-grandfathers. There are more than 200 species of willow, but only 3-4 of them are suitable for weaving. No paint or varnish are used. The color and durability of products depend on the variety of the plant and the way it is processed. Elder sons help the parents prepare the necessary materials. With their straw products, the artisans participate in many folk festivals, district and regional exhibitions and fairs. Wicker-weaving master classes are held at home on a farm in the village of Yankovichi.
