People's Writer of Belarus Nikolai Cherginets turns 85!
One of the most popular modern writers of Belarus is celebrating his anniversary today. Nikolai Cherginets turns 85! The President has congratulated the writer on the important occasion. More than fifty books by the author have been translated into 18 foreign languages. Those over 40 still remember how they used to read his police detective novels to bits. Audiences praised the feature films made based on the writer's novels, including "Escape from Death", "You Have an Assignment", and "Major Vetrov". His professional career took him from field operative to the chief of department of criminal investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He served in the midst of the military conflict in Afghanistan. In the 1990s, he was at the helm of national security and international affairs at the Council of the Republic. For over 15 years he headed the Union of Writers of Belarus.
