National Art Museum prepares to present a religious book
08.08.2017
A religious book from the year of 1600 is being prepared for a presentation by the National Art Museum. The Gospel, which was used by several generations of Belarusians, fell into the hands of the restorers in a dilapidated state. It was produced at the printing house of the Mamonichi brothers, one of the most important centers of Belarusian book printing. It is made even more valuable thanks to four engravings depicting the Evangelists. Almost all of the nearly 200 early printed books that were incorporated into the collections of the National Museum during the Soviet times came from
closed down churches, or were discovered by museum expeditions.
