Bolshoi Theatre turns 90!
Exactly 90 years ago on May 25 the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater presented its first production, which was "Carmen" by Georges Bizet. During that season, the theater also presented "Eugene Onegin", "The Queen of Spades", "The Tsar's Bride" and even ballet "The Red Poppy". The company got its own stage in 1939. The legendary building was designed by famous architect Iosif Langbard. Over the decades the theater has managed to build up a solid reputation thanks to the high professionalism and technical skill of its artists, its ambitious and non-standard approaches to world classics and even creating its original styles. After 90 years "Carmen" returns to the Bolshoi’s stage again as with this popular opera the theater celebrates its anniversary. And tonight the ballet company opens "Grand Tour" on the stage of the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater with a production of "Anna Karenina". After that the company will tour a number of Russian cities, most of which have never seen the Belarusian ballet. Kazan, Ufa, Chelyabinsk and Tyumen are on the list.
