Belarus President approves financing for salvage operations on Duke's Tower of Kreva Castle

The Duke's Tower of the Kreva Castle is up for preservation. The project's financing was approved by the President. The castle has been lying in ruins for a 100 years following the Kreva military operation of the First World War. The castle, built in the 14th century, went down in the history of Belarus primarily as a place of signing the Union of Kreva. King Yagailo had his uncle Keistut, the father of Prince Vitaut, killed in its dungeons. Vitaut himself managed to escape. During the First World War the castle found itself in the front line. Russian army was positioned mere a quarter of a kilometer away from the German troops. It was here that the first female death squad under the command of Maria Bochkareva operated.
