110 years of the legendary Kupala’s "Paulinka"
27.07.2022
The first people's poet of Belarus wrote a comedy in two acts in 1912 in the farmstead of Akopy, Logoisk district. All the characters in the "scenes from gentry life" (as the author himself described his work) are real people. For each of the heroes, Yanka Kupala had a prototype from his own environment: friends, neighbors. "Paulinka" has the richest stage history of Kupala's plays. The first reading of it took place the very next day after the completion of the work, and the first production six months later. "Paulinka" is still an advertising card of the Belarusian theater scene. Staged during the years of the military evacuation of the Kupala’s troupe in Tomsk in 1944, the play continues on the stage unchanged to this day.
