On 21 May, Orthodox Christians mark Ascension Day
21.05.2026
One of the most important church holidays always falls on the 40th day after Easter. The hope for spiritual elevation is a justified symbol of this event. According to the Gospel, Jesus Christ spent 40 days after His resurrection instructing His disciples and strengthening their faith. Only then did the Savior ascend into heaven. On this day, housewives baked bread and pies in the shape of "ladders", symbolizing the path to heaven. Families gathered medicinal herbs and attended festive services. In the folk calendar, Ascension Day marks the final farewell to spring and the beginning of summer.
