Belarusians honored the memory of the fallen pilots
A sad date that Belarusians remember: 5 years have passed since the feat of military pilots in the sky over Baranovichi. On 19 May, 2021, Major Andrei Nichiporchik and Lieutenant Nikita Kukonenko took the falling plane away from residential buildings at the cost of their own lives. In a critical situation, when the YAK-130's controls failed, the officers held the steering wheel until the last second and sent the plane to a single point outside the residential buildings. By decree of the President of Belarus, the pilots were posthumously awarded the title "Hero of Belarus". Today, a memorial monument is located at the site of the tragedy. Every year, residents of Baranovichi, colleagues, relatives and friends come here to honor the memory of the pilots who made their last flight for the sake of others.
