Archaeologists have discovered unique XI century artifacts in the Minsk Oblast
A rare discovery by Belarusian archaeologists. Scientists from the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences discovered unique artifacts from the 11th century during excavations near the Menka River — fragments of a charred wooden plate and ancient birch bark pottery. This is the first such discovery in 70 years. The fragile artifacts have been sent to the Academy of Sciences' laboratories for conservation. Restorers are already working on them. After study, the finds will be displayed in museums. The Menka Hill Fort is one of the most important archaeological sites in Belarus; it was previously a fortified settlement. The discovered household items and coins confirm that the people who lived here were actively engaged in economic and trade activities.
