22 June marks 85 years since the start of the Great Patriotic War. Brest is preparing for large-scale memorial events
A requiem service will be held at the night of 22 June at Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, during which local residents and visitors will honour the memory of the defenders and victims of the Great Patriotic War and lay flowers at the Eternal Flame. Following this a military-historical reenactment will begin at the Kobrin Fortress. Around 1.000 people will recreate the events of 85 years ago. It is planned to involve vintage vehicles, horse patrol, and aircraft. The event will culminate in the opening of a brand-new memorial site "Sorrow" located in the northwestern part of the citadel. Brest is also traditionally the starting point of the "Train of Memory" a large-scale international cultural and educational project initiated by the Council of the Republic of Belarus and the Federation Council of Russia.
