Aleksandr Lukashenko honors the memory of Algerian Independence fighters

Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the Monument of Glory and Martyrdom and the National Museum of Independence Fighters. The monument was erected in memory of the soldiers who gave their lives in the struggle for the freedom of Algeria. It was opened in 1982 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the country's independence. During the period of more than 100 years of occupation, the French killed over 1.5 mln people. That is why Algeria is called "the country of one and a half million martyrs." There is a wreath from the President of Belarus at the monument. Most of the collection of the National Museum of Independence Fighters is also dedicated to the occupation of the country by France and the popular resistance. The museum contains the testimonies of more than 7.000 participants of the national movement. The President of Belarus left an entry in the Book of Honored Guests.
