Vileika tour
What do the largest artificial reservoir in Belarus, the only egg museum in the country, and the unique weeping spruce have in common? The answer is simple: all this is available in Vileika!
This city is famous for its water bodies. First, it stands on the bank of a large river-the Vilia. Secondly, the largest reservoir in the country is located here.
It is best to start your journey from the main square, especially since it can be seen from afar by one very iconic and beautiful structure – the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The monument was built in 1906-1913. The church is included in the state list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus. Bright, large-scale, with sharp towers. It has features of Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic styles. The architect August Klein built the temple at the beginning of the XX century. The one who designed most of the buildings in Vilnius.
The Church of St. Mary of Egypt is a snow-white temple, stylized as ancient Russian architecture. This is the only church in the country dedicated to this Christian saint. It has been preserved to this day in its original form. Surprisingly and unusually, the church was originally built with a clock. There is no such thing in our country anymore!
Guests of these places can visit an unusual and very informative museum. The first egg museum in Belarus was opened near Vileyka in 2014. It has over 400 pieces decorated with various techniques.
The City Park is a real local attraction on the banks of the Vilia. Here, citizens socialize with friends, arrange picnics, distract themselves from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and gain strength by reading books in nature. The park is decorated with sculptures. For example, the Monument to the mother.
The Vileyka reservoir is one of the "man-made monuments of nature", which attracts fishing and outdoor enthusiasts not only from all over the republic, but also from other countries. In terms of area, it is surpassed only by Lake Naroch. By the way, places for recreation are dismantled here in winter. This is not surprising, because the views here are truly magical! You be the judge! Water skiing, motor boating, rowing and sailing are available on the reservoir. In winter, there are countless fishermen here. And, of course, there are sport fishing competitions.
