The National Library of Belarus in the shape of a rhombicuboctahedron is one of the TOP 50 most unusual buildings in the world. Moreover, at night, the 73-meter-high diamond of knowledge is visible even from space. In addition, the National Library of Belarus is one of the largest in the world. It is rightfully the hallmark of our country.
Today it is not only the richest collection of books, but also a huge multifunctional center where high technologies, ultra-modern design and unusual architecture met. The cut diamond symbolizes the value of knowledge and the infinity of the world to be known.
The grandiose construction, which involved about 5,000 people and 200 organizations, began in 2002. Work was carried out around the clock. Moreover, all in order to open the doors of the building on June 16, 2006.
The National Library is located in a picturesque park area. In front of the facade, there is a bronze figure of Francysk Skaryna. The main entrance is made in the form of an open book with images on the development of world and Slavic writing, as well as words from the "Bible" of Francysk Skaryna – " To be the perfect man of God ".This is in 19 languages of the world! The interior design features works by contemporary Belarusian artists and sculptors.
The collection of Diamond of Knowledge is about 9 million copies on various media. These are both printed publications, manuscripts, micro-copies of documents, and electronic materials created in Belarus and abroad in more than 80 languages. The main part of the funds is located on 10 floors of the vault. There are 20 reading rooms here.This is as much as 2000 reading places!
In 2005, on behalf of the President, the library established a Center for international meetings and negotiations at the level of Heads of State and Government.
The socio-cultural center organizes art exhibitions and festivals, literary and artistic evenings, and book exhibitions. People's Culture Days are held annually. Everyone can go on an educational excursion. Visit the Museum of book and the rooftop observatory, from which the capital opens up in full view.
The building is built in such a way that it allows you to maintain a constant indoor air temperature. Technological corridors along the outer walls create a layer that prevents temperature fluctuations. Thus, the library's treasures are under reliable protection.
In the evening, the library's facade turns into a multi-color LED screen. There are more than 20 types of colour effects. These are created using more than 65,000 shades. A beautiful sight that everyone should see!
