Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus S. Aleinik took part in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku. Azerbaijan has been chairing the organization for the past four years. Uganda will take over that right in the fall. The Non-Aligned Movement was founded in 1961 to defend the interests of developing countries in the confrontation of the Cold War. Today it has 120 member countries, or 60 percent of the United Nations. 18 states and 10 organizations are granted the observer status in the NAM. Belarus has been a member of the Non-Aligned Movement since 1998.
