Belarus is not going to change its nuclear-free status and calls upon the international community to develop conditions for progressive movement towards a world without nuclear weapons. This statement was made by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vasily Pavlov at the Review Conference of the Parties to Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in New York. As a first step, Belarus proposed taking specific measures to reduce nuclear risks and make the process of nuclear disarmament multilateral and irreversible. Secondly, as the diplomat pointed out, it is necessary to ensure the earliest possible entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, which has been ratified by 174 states. The third proposal of the Belarusian side is to give a new impetus to the process of setting up nuclear-weapon-free zones. As a fourth step, Minsk proposes to consider the development of a global agreement on guarantees on the non-use of nuclear weapons and the prevention of the threat of their use to non-nuclear states.
